FAQs
Meetings
Are all meetings held at your office or can you come to my home?
Meetings can be held at our spacious office in Sevenoaks or online using Microsoft Teams.
If you are unable to visit our office, we are happy to come to your home, office, or anywhere that is mutually convenient to speak to you.
Is there parking at your office if I visit for a meeting?
Our office is located on Sevenoaks High Street. Though we don’t have our own parking available, there are plenty of car parks nearby, and Sevenoaks rail station is only a 15-minute walk away.
For help finding our office, please call us on 01732 227700.
How long will my initial meeting last?
This will depend on your circumstances and your goals. We find that it usually takes around 90 minutes for us to cover all the necessary details.
What do I need to bring to an initial meeting?
It would be useful for you to have details or copies of:
- Your most recent bank statements
- Your most recent pension statement
- Life insurance, income protection or critical illness cover you have in place
- Your State Pension forecast and National Insurance record (this can be obtained from your Government Gateway account)
- Details of your income (sources and amounts) and expenses
- Your will and any Lasting Power of Attorney documents
Your driving licence and passport.
Advice
Are you independent?
We are an independent financial planning firm. This means we can advise you on any products, providers, and policies that are on the market.
We strongly believe that being independent means we can provide you with the most helpful advice for you as we aren’t restricted to any specific providers or products.
Are you regulated?
We are directly authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Our FCA number is 463221.
Please visit our entry on the FCA Register to learn more about this.
Can you advise on equity release?
We can advise you about equity release.
We do not advise on residential or buy-to-let mortgages. If you would like advice about either of these products, we can help you to find the right adviser for you.
Fees
Do I have to pay for an initial meeting?
An initial meeting is free of charge.
At the meeting, we will explain which services we recommend for you and how much we would charge for them. You are under no obligation to work with us after the initial meeting.
How do you charge for your services?
We charge a percentage-based fee for organising any financial products for you and for our ongoing review service.
Please visit About our fees to learn more about how we charge for our services.
Do you receive commission for any of the products you recommend?
For certain advice areas, such as financial protection and equity release advice, we may receive commission from the product provider.
If this is the case, you won’t be charged an advice fee, as we receive the commission in lieu of this.
Do you charge VAT?
FMS is VAT-registered but our services are generally exempt from VAT. There are some exceptions though.
For example, if you require a one-off review or specific consultancy advice that doesn’t require a financial product recommendation, VAT will be applicable at the standard rate.
